  1. Welcome in the blogosphere!

It's not clear to me what you are talking about. You seem to start the story halfway and I'm missing information.

  2. I also want to wellcome you to the blogosphere. I think I got the first series of patterns. The green squares where the squares whera a rook could be succesfully double attacked by a queen. I did not get these patterns though. Neither did i get the following knght patterns. Could you help us out, because just as Temposchlucker I am very much into patterns and scanning.

  3. Thanks for the welcome.
Yes its about the squares where you can put the rook without it being double attacked by the queen. If you look at the figures you will realize that you can move the king around and his “shadow”, draw 2 diagonals from it and you will see the squares where you can put your rook safely. If you are on the edge of the board there will be less safe squares. This will reduce your need to calculate.

  4. Try it out! Place your king on the board, imagine the “shadow” and draw 2 diagonals, you will see that the safe squares are only on the diagonals and in the shadow of the king.

  5. If the king is in the central square (c3, c6, f6, f3) you will have more safe squares. For the knight you can move the red cross over the board, if your Queen, Rook or any other piece is out of the red cross and on a square of opposite color, compared to the square where the King stands, it will be safe of a fork by the Knight.
